Tips from a Refrigerator Repair Contractor on How to Fix Leaks
Refrigerators can spring leaks from various different places; however, it is fortunate that most of these leaks are quick and easy to fix, and fixing a leak by yourself could save you not only time, but also money as you do not need to call in a professional refrigerator repair service.
Repairing a leak emanating from the lower Front of your refrigerator or freezer door
Clogged or blocked drain tubes on self-defrosting refrigerators are usually the prime suspect for leaks coming from the base of a refrigerator. Fixing this blockage will usually fix the leak also. First, remember to unplug your appliance, then check to see from where your self-defrosting refrigerator drains all its defrosted water. A tube or a channel will normally direct all the melted water to a pan at the base of your refrigerator. Take a look at your owner’s manual if you are sure where the pan is located. Then, take off the cover panel; with some refrigerators, you could also need to remove the floor panel.
Once you’ve found it, remove the bottom drain tube from your refrigerator, and then feed it into a bucket – this will ensure all melted water is caught. Then, remove the top portion of the tube, use a bucket or towels to catch any water which comes out of the defroster. With the help of a hair dryer, thaw out any frozen areas inside the drain tube. Squeeze the tube to feel for frozen sections.
Place the top end of the tube beneath a faucet, then run hot air through it to help to dislodge the blockage, if you have located one. Make sure there is sufficient room within your bucket to drain the excess water out, once the obstruction is cleared and the water runs freely through it. Reconnect the drain tube once you’ve finished clearing the blockage out.
